Handmade in Jingdezhen from Gaobaini porcelain clay (高白泥), this gaiwan begins with an exceptionally pale clay body, transformed through wood firing into layers of ivory, soft grey, faint celadon green and touches of warm ash.
The exterior remains quiet and almost cloud-like, with subtle speckling and smoky blushes gathering around the lid and rim. Inside, the firing becomes more expressive: washes of pale green, cream and warm yellow overlap organically, giving the glaze a softly luminous, almost watercolour quality.
The rounded body and gently flared rim make it an easy, balanced gaiwan for everyday gongfu brewing. Its light glazed interior also makes the colour and opening of the tea leaves particularly easy to observe — especially beautiful with green tea, white tea and lightly oxidised oolong.
Each piece is individually handmade and wood fired, so variations in ash, colour and firing marks are part of its character.
