The Li Mao (笠帽) is one of the most elegant classical Yixing forms, inspired by the silhouette of a traditional bamboo hat. Its broad, stable body, gently sloping lid, and restrained proportions create a shape that feels both refined and timeless. While simple in appearance, the form leaves little room for error, making precision and balance essential to its success.
This fully handmade example is crafted from original Xiao Mei Yao Zhu Ni (小煤窑原矿朱泥), a clay prized among Yixing enthusiasts for its vivid color, fine texture, and demanding firing characteristics. The clay's naturally dense structure and high shrinkage rate make it challenging to work with, but reward the maker with exceptional clarity of form and a warm, luminous surface.
At approximately 150ml, this pot is particularly suited to: Dancong Oolong, Wuyi Yancha, High-aroma Taiwanese Oolong,Young and middle-aged Sheng Pu'er.
A classical Yixing form paired with one of the most beloved clays—a teapot designed not for display alone, but for decades of brewing.
