A Song Bao Chun (松抱春) teapot crafted from dark Hei Liao (黑料) clay, holding approximately 130ml.
The name Song Bao Chun can be translated as “Pine Embracing Spring.” The design takes inspiration from ancient pine trees, a symbol of resilience, longevity, and quiet strength in Chinese art and literature.
What makes this piece distinctive is the sculptural treatment of the details. The handle, spout, and lid knob are formed as textured pine branches, while delicate pine needles emerge across the body of the pot. Rather than decoration applied afterwards, the naturalistic elements feel integrated into the form itself, creating a balance between functionality and artistry.
The deep charcoal-black clay provides a striking backdrop for the pine motif. Over time, regular use develops a soft sheen that further enhances the contrast between the smooth body and the textured branch details.
Its compact 130ml capacity makes it particularly suited to gongfu brewing of Dancong oolong, Yancha (Wuyi rock tea), Roasted Tie Guan Yin, Mature sheng and shu pu'er.
The slightly rounded body retains heat well, while the smaller size encourages concentrated infusions and attentive brewing.
A pot that sits somewhere between a daily brewer and a collector's piece—functional, expressive, and rooted in traditional symbolism.
One only.
